MIA Expands Regional 1-Day Seminar Schedule
Adds More Restoration Modules

April 26, 2005, CLEVELAND, OH. —The Marble Institute of America announced today that it is vastly expanded its newly launched one-day seminar programs and curriculums to include more offerings on restoration and other pertinent subjects of interest to the natural stone community.

Beginning in June, the expanded schedule will include 21 cities in the United States and Canada.

"The feedback from the first five seminars held since we announced the original program early this year been very encouraging," said Jim Hieb, director of special projects for MIA. "The result has been an expansion of the curriculum into more bite-sized sessions and to offer more courses in restoration and maintenance."

Hieb said typical of the comments from attendees of the first group of seminars was that of Brian Briggs of Granite Guys, Inc., who said: "If this seminar is anywhere near your area, I strongly urge you to attend. You are bound to learn something."

In addition to more courses and cities, MIA's planners have identified who should attend each seminar and what they will learn.

Here's the lineup of one-day seminars for the remainder of 2005:

How to Profit in the Rapidly Growing Stone Restoration Business
Baltimore, June 9; Detroit, June 23; Atlanta, July 21, and Dallas, December 15.

The seminar is designed for all stone professionals who field questions regarding the care and maintenance of natural stone, companies adding restoration services, stone fabricators/installers using restoration to gain repeat customers, companies new to natural stone fabrication and/or installing, others interested in more education about natural stone and janitorial firms.

The course will cover, using the right equipment for the job, new techniques, pricing and profitability of restoration and how to grow a customer base.

Fabrication Shop Efficiency, Productivity, Safety, OSHA & More: Avoid the Mistakes & Traps Made by Other Shops
Washington D.C., June 6; Richmond, VA, June 8, and Baltimore, June 10.

The program is designed for fabricators, shop managers and supervisors, safety managers, business owners, sales and showroom personnel who need to know the entire production process, shop employees with growth potential, new and emerging stone companies and those hungry for additional information on the business.

Included in the curriculum will be money saving tips you can take back to the business immediately, fabrication mistakes you can't afford to repeat, OSHA and safety tips to protect employees, most efficient and accurate templating methods and documents and forms to streamline the production process.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to network with other industry professionals.

Stone Shop Safety – A Practical Approach (How to avoid fines and business interruption due to safety concerns.)
Chicago, June 22; Charlotte, NC, July 19; Atlanta, July 22; Barre, VT, August 17, and Houston, TX, December 12.

This seminar is designed for the same audience as the Fabrication seminar.

A Nuts & Bolts Approach to Greater Success and Profits In Stone Fabrication Seminar.
Indianapolis, June 20; Milwaukee, June 24; Raleigh, NC, July 18; Columbia, SC, July 20; Montreal, Canada, August 15; Portland, ME, August19; Vancouver, Canada, September 13; San Antonio, TX, December 14, and Dallas, December 16.

The course includes how to properly design and layout a fabrication shop, money savings tips for immediate implementation, avoiding costly mistakes, most efficient and accurate templating methods, documents and forms to streamline the production process, and air, water and handling systems needed prior to machinery acquisition.

In addition to the new one-day seminar schedule, MIA will also offer two-day seminars in Boston (July 14-15), St. Cloud, MN, (August 11-12) and Seattle (September 15-16).
