Marble Institute of America Donates Its
Dimension Stone Design Manual to Schools of Architecture
CLEVELAND, OH, June 25, 2008 — The DSDM is the stone industry’s single source reference for dimensional stone design and construction facts and details. Contents include sections on granite, marble, limestone, serpentine, soapstone, travertine, quartz-based stone and slate with product descriptions and technical data; general installation guidelines; guidelines and typical detailing for horizontal surfaces, vertical surfaces, wet areas, furniture and countertops; maintenance of exterior and interior stone installations; and a glossary of terms relating to dimension stone.
The Executive Vice President of the Marble Institute of America, Garis Distelhorst, said that "The MIA intends that this gesture will assist students of architecture in their quest to learn about standards for all potential building materials and applications. As the need for building materials in which beauty and sustainability increases, the use of natural stone is also going to increase. To meet this increasing need, the dimension stone industry, through the MIA, will continue to provide products and solutions that satisfy contemporary design concepts, while retaining all the outstanding qualities for which the natural stone industry has always been respected. We want students of architecture to have access to the tools they need to specify natural stone.”
