DEVELOPING AN EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK
FOCUS OF NEW MIA TOOL KIT
CLEVELAND, OH, October 11, 2006A new natural stone industry management tool kit from the Marble Institute of America (MIA) offers 106 policy options for the development of an employee handbook.
As part of an on-going series of management tool kits for the stone industry, the newest Management Tool Kit offers employee handbook policy options, as well as guidance on writing style, contents to include, review considerations, how to introduce handbooks to employees, what to avoid, and advantages of employee handbooks. There are also 106 different policies including new employee orientation, sick leave, attendance, and much more. Several options of each policy are provided offering a variety of language to fit the needs of individual stone companies.
It will be formally introduced at the MIA booth (#1414) at StonExpo in Las Vegas, November 8-11, 2006.
Packaged in a 3-ring binder, the forms in the tool kit are designed to be photocopied or companies can use the electronic version from the CD which is included with the binder. With the electronic versions, users can modify to meet their individual company needs by changing any aspect of the form's content and style.
According to John Cogswell, CogswellStone, and a member of the tool kit review committee, "This tool kit is another example of the MIA providing business management resources for the industry." He added, "the employee handbook offers valuable tips on employee policies and is applicable to all types of companies serving the market."
More than a dozen companies in the industry contributed their employee handbooks to the project, which is the fourth in the series of MIA management tool kits. Other kits feature human resources forms, countertop customer/sales forms, and job descriptions.
