Marble Institute Announces 2008 OSHA Stone Facility Safety Seminar Schedule
CLEVELAND, OH, November 8, 2007 The Marble Institute of America has announced its Stone Safety Seminar Schedule for 2008. Working with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), MIA will present four, day-long stone safety seminars in three states next year. The dates and locations are:
- January 24, 2008 - Miami, FL
- March 11, 2008 - Los Angeles, CA
- March 13, 2008 - San Diego, CA
- April 17, 2008 - Boston, MA
Working under the Alliance signed by both organizations in 2006, MIA has developed and refined the learning objectives from previous collaborative work with OSHA.
Topics covered will include...
- Silica Exposure in the Stone Industry
- Slab Handling & Other Safety Hazards in the Shop
- Free Consultation Services available for Employers
- Developing a Safety & Health Program
- How to Prepare for an OSHA Inspection
"Highlighting these seminars is an on-site inspection by OSHA," explained Gary Distelhorst, MIA executive vice-president. "We have asked an MIA member fabricator in each city to allow OSHA to stage some of the most common safety violations. Fabricators will witness real and citable infringements that many will find all too familiar."
The MIA member price for attending the seminar is $99 per person ($129 for non-members). Participants receive the MIA safety handbook, Safety in the Stone Business, 3 safety videos and safety related handouts from both OSHA and the MIA (a $225.00 value). Please note: attendee names and addresses will not be provided to OSHA.
